BroadBandNow was started in November, 2010 as a group of neighbors in Webster Township, Michigan trying to get the local telecom companies to extend broadband access to their neighborhood. They shared a common concern that the digital divide between the broadband have’s and have not’s was hurting their children’s education, careers, property values and community.
Over the next four years, their focus shifted from trying to engage the large telecoms to changing local policies and attracting Fixed Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISP’s) to extend broadband throughout their community.
In August 2014, BroadBandNow joined forces with a growing group from western Washtenaw and Jackson counties who shared the same goal of bringing reliable, affordable high speed internet access to the unserved and underserved. Today, BroadBandNow is looking to build long term community based solutions to the broadband challenges faced by our residents.
