Melanie’s work organizing the larger effort to widen broadband access in Washtenaw County and the surrounding townships is a great step forward!

Some unfortunate news. The internet provider I had been working with, Todd Gardner, has had to pull out from the project. We are not out of options, there are other providers who have expressed interest. This is a set-back, however, as Todd was the only provider planning to build a tower.

The broadband rollout is again moving forward! I have spoken with the internet provider a couple times in the last 2 weeks, getting together the information needed to proceed. He will be working with the township in the next few weeks on the permitting process. it could take a few months to move everything through the township so we will have to be patient.

I want to let everyone know that the Board approved the changes to the ordinance to allow towers on agricultural land. Things can start moving forward again. I’ve sent some documents to the provider, Todd Gardner. He is finishing up some other work, and will start rolling on this project after the July 4th holiday. It will likely take a few months to get all the approvals and permits. I’ll keep everyone posted.

A quick update from last weeks Board of Trustees Meeting and Planning Commission meeting. The short summary is we seem to have the Board and Planning Commission’s support, but the timing is longer than expected.

I want to thank everyone for coming to the Township Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday evening. Significant progress was made. The Board has officially asked the Planning Commission to draft language to amend the zoning ordinance to allow towers in agricultural districts. This puts us back on track, progressing toward a wireless internet service.

This is a posting of my September 19, 2013 email update

On Sept. 5th, I sat in on a meeting with Todd Gardner (the internet service provider), Township Supervisor John Kingsley and the Zoning Administrator Bruce Pindzia. Todd presented a study showing how 3 towers, one in our neighborhood plus 2 more, could provide internet to almost the entire township. Mr. Kingsley received this study positively. He indicated he would like to see a township wide solution.
